Tribute to 'much-loved daughter' Erica Ward who died in Portchester collision
THE family of a ‘kind and caring’ daughter, who died in a car crash last week, have paid tribute to her.
Erica Ward, of Kingscote Road in Paulsgrove, died after a collision on Downend Road in Portchester on Thursday June 25.
The 21-year-old, who was the passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene after police were called at 12.40am to reports that a Ford Fiesta had left the road.
Her family said they are ‘devastated by [the] sudden loss’.

The driver, a 22-year-old man from Paulsgrove, was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital to be treated for his injuries and has been discharged.
Police arrested a 29-year-old man from Cosham following an appeal for information on a Ford Transit van that was seen on the road around the time of the collision.
The driver of the Ford Transit was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
The man has since been released from custody but remains under investigation.
Paying tribute to her today, her family said: ‘Erica was a kind, caring and much-loved daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin, and friend.
‘Her capacity to empathise and care for others in pain was unlimited and her determination was unyielding.
‘Some of her happiest moments were found whilst volunteering for the LUPS (Let Us Play) scheme in Fareham, offering respite care for disabled children.
‘Erica was taken far too soon, we are devastated by this sudden loss.
‘She will be deeply missed by many but will remain in our memories and hearts forever.’
Officers investigating the exact cause of the collision continue to appeal for any information, dash cam footage, or CCTV that may assist in their investigation.
