Travellers who pitched up on Fareham council land get boot
Travellers removed from site
Travellers who pitched up on council land in Fareham have been given the boot.
A convoy of vehicles descended onto Cams Alders Recreation Ground on Thursday. But following efforts from police and Fareham Borough Council they were removed on Friday.

A police spokesperson previously said: “We are aware of an unauthorised encampment at Cams Alders Recreation Ground in Fareham. Officers have attended the site and we are liaising with the landowners, Fareham Borough Council.”
A council spokesperson had confirmed efforts were underway to retake the land back but referenced information on their website which stated they are unable to “remove gypsies/travellers from their land immediately”.
The spokesperson said: “This is actually Fareham Borough Council land, so we are in the process of moving them on. You can see the process we must follow for this here.”
On Thursday, councillor Gemma Furnivall said in a Facebook post accompanied by a picture of the park with caravans in the background: “I popped out early this morning and have spoken with the council and the police who have already started their usual processes for removing the camp from the pitches and monitoring everyone’s welfare.
“The football club are saying that the game on Saturday will be going ahead and that they have contingency plans for the youth teams - I know they will update if anything changes there.
“For community relations it may well be a good idea to walk dogs etc around the other half of Cams for now to allow the authorities to best get on with everything.”
