A Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesperson said: “Our teams are taking these linked reports extremely seriously and are following solid lines of enquiry as our investigation continues.

“Were you in the area at the times mentioned above? Do you have any doorbell, dashcam or CCTV footage which could help our enquiries? If you have any information relating to any of these reports, please get in touch by calling 101 or via our website, quoting the relevant reference number.”

The police are also issuing advice to vehicle owners to help prevent theft.

The spokesperson added: “Theft from motor vehicles is often opportunistic and offenders, hoping that the vehicle is unlocked, will try door handles. Please remain vigilant, ensure all doors are locked and that you do not leave valuables inside your vehicles.

“Your mobile phone, coins for the car park, sunglasses, packs of medication or other items that can earn quick cash are irresistible to the opportunist thief.

“Make sure to physically check that doors and window are locked, especially if you have used the remote to lock the vehicle, then look inside again to make sure you’ve not left anything on display, including ensuring that your glove box is closed.”
