Fraudulent credit card skimmer attached to ATM outside Co-op in Stubbington stealing money

A fraudulent card skimmer that was stealing payments details has been discovered.

Police discovered the device that was attached to an ATM outside Co-Op in The Green, Stubbington, last Thursday (August 7). “The ATM had been 'swallowing' peoples cards, one card was located inside the skimmer device,” Fareham Police said in a statement on Facebook.

“It has been confirmed on one occasion that a bank card swallowed by the ATM had been stolen and subsequently used fraudulently. In this instance a silver object was placed into the card insert to trap the card and a small camera was used to capture people entering their pins.”

Officers seized the device and have launched an investigation into fraudulent card skimmers - aiming to find out who is responsible. “Please be extra vigilant when using ATM's, particularly round the Stubbington area”, the force added.

“Always cancel your card at the earliest opportunity should it be swallowed by a ATM. If you believe a machine to have been tampered with or you see something suspicious please contact the police and the bank or ATM company.”
