Southampton bus driver in court over school bus crash that left three children with life-changing injuries

The driver of a double-decker bus has appeared in court charged with causing injury by dangerous driving after he crashed into a railway bridge in an incident that left three children with ‘life-changing’ injuries.

Martin Walker is charged in connection with the accident involving the bus taking 74 pupils aged between 11 and 16 to Henry Beaufort School in Winchester on September 10 last year.

The 36-year-old from Southampton spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address during the short hearing at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court.

He did not enter pleas to the three charges of causing injury by dangerous driving and the case was sent to be heard at Winchester Crown Court.
