Sentencing for convicted stalker put on hold after defendant had a bout of IBS in prison
Wayne Dawson’s IBS flare-up kept him out of the dock today.
A Fareham man who was meant to be sentenced in court today has seen his case adjourned - because of his irritable bowel.
Wayne Dawson, 50 from Southampton Road, Titchfield, was due for sentencing at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, May 21. It came after his previous sentencing date was adjourned due to video link issues.
He previously pleaded guilty to one count of stalking without fear, alarm or distress, relating to harassment between February 1 and April 6 this year.
Dawson was meant to be transported from HMP Lewes in East Sussex, but his hearing was delayed once again due to health problems.
Representing the defendant, defence barrister Bridget O’Hagan said: “Dawson has been ill overnight with IBS and an upset stomach, so he has politely refused to attend court today.
“We will have to put his hearing on tomorrow for sentencing instead.”
Dawson will be transported to Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court on Friday, May 22 - assuming his health has improved. Until then, he has been remanded in custody.
