Racist graffiti spotted scrawled in large letters at bus stop and play park in Portsmouth

The council leader said Portsmouth is a “welcoming and inclusive” city

Racist graffiti has caused outrage after it was left scrawled in large letters across a bus stop and play park in Portsmouth.

The “offensive” terms were spotted on Thursday evening on a slide at Paulsgrove Park, off Allaway Avenue. Another derogatory term was also plastered on a bus stop along the same road.

The graffiti is understood to have already been removed by a resident by the time Portsmouth City Council community wardens attended. Councillor Steve Pitt, leader of the council, said: “The graffiti was removed promptly after it was reported.

“We strongly condemn this unacceptable and offensive behaviour which has no place in our city. It does not reflect the values of Portsmouth residents or the spirit of our community.

“Portsmouth is a welcoming, inclusive city, and we are proud of our diverse population, and the respect and unity that define our city."
