Two more plead guilty over Southampton disorder as total charged reaches 25

Two more people, including a woman from Portsmouth, have pleaded guilty over violent disorder in Southampton following the murder of student Henry Nowak.

Amanda McCartney, 52, of Inverness Road in Fratton, and Thomas Thacker, 35, of Portchester Road in Southampton appeared at Southampton Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (June 17), after Hampshire Police said they were charged with violent disorder.

Court officials confirmed they pleaded guilty at the hearings and were remanded back into custody to next appear at Southampton Crown Court for sentence on June 30.

Twenty-five people have so far been charged over the June 2 incident.

The charges follow protests after Vickrum Digwa, 23, was jailed for life with a minimum term of 21 years on June 1 for the murder of 18-year-old Mr Nowak in December.

Anger erupted after police body-worn video was released showing Mr Nowak being placed in handcuffs moments before he became unconscious and subsequently died. Digwa had lied to the police and had claimed that the student had instead attacked him.
