Travellers arrived on Friday

Police have given an update after travellers pitched up on fields in Portsmouth on Friday.

As reported, councillor George Madgwick was said to have reported the incident on playing fields off Allaway Avenue, Paulsgrove, to wardens who attended the scene.

Police also attended with a spokesperson telling The News on Saturday: “Shortly after 5:50pm on Friday we were made aware of an unauthorised encampment at Allaway Avenue.

“Officers have attended the site and we are liaising with the landowners, Portsmouth City Council.”

The spokesperson said the travellers remain at the site amid ongoing discussions with the council over their removal.
