Portsmouth police warning over 'blatant' rule of six breaches ahead of restrictions easing

THE top police officer in Portsmouth has warned her officers will take action over ‘blatant’ breaches.

Portsmouth district commander Superintendent Clare Jenkins spoke out as the rule of six comes into force on Monday.

It is the first step in a series of easing restrictions in a roadmap set out by prime minister Boris Johnson.

The start of the week is set to see temperatures of 13-15C, with more people expected to enjoy beauty hotspots.

Supt Jenkins said: ‘It’s been a long time since we’ve all been able to meet with small groups of friends and family outdoors, and this will no doubt provide a welcome boost to many of us after what has been a very long and difficult winter.

‘While we want people to enjoy being able to gather with friends and family again, we ask them to do it safely while abiding by the regulations and remembering the rule of six when meeting outdoors.

‘Our officers will continue to engage, explain and encourage in the first instance, however enforcement action will be taken for blatant or repeated regulation breaches.’
