Officers were spotted in New Road, Fratton, at around 9pm on Sunday 14 December following reports a man had been “arranging to meet and sending sexually explicit messages to someone he believed to be a child online”, police previously said.

Three police cars attended the scene as a 43-year-old man from Portsmouth was arrested on suspicion of engaging in sexual communication with a child.

Then two days later on Tuesday evening police were again seen in the road dealing with an incident related to the accused man. A police spokesperson said: “Officers were there carrying out enquiries as part of this investigation.”

He has been bailed with conditions until 14 March whilst “enquiries continue”, police said.
