A DRINK driver won the approval of a judge by showing 'impressive' remorse in court.

Terry Jones, 38 of Birdlip Road, Paulsgrove, was found with 85mg of alcohol in his breath after being stopped by police in London Road, North End, on July 14.

Jones, who was driving a black BMW, pleaded guilty at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

When asked by Judge Peter Greenfield if he had anything to say for his actions, he took full responsibility.

Representing himself, Jones said: 'I am dreadfully sorry about it.

'I didn't realise how much I had and I know that's no excuse, but I do apologise.'

Jones has been disqualified from driving for three years, and must pay £750, including costs.

Judge Greenfield said: 'I have to disqualify you – it was quite a high reading.

'But I am impressed that you have been so honest about it.'
