Bizarre turn of events as police spot people with 'huge haul' of crabs and oysters while attending crash scene
Police officers protect oysters and crabs
Unusual turn of events for police officers dealing with a crash after spotting people collecting a ‘huge haul’ of oysters and crabs against local regulations.
While Havant Police were attending a crash on Langstone Bridge yesterday afternoon, which required the bridge to be temporarily closed, they “noticed something a little unusual.”
Multiple individuals were seen collecting a large quantity of crabs and oysters and attempting to leave with the haul. Following checks, the seafood was seized due to local regulations designed to protect the area's marine environment and shellfish stocks.

In a social media post, Havant Police said: “Our local crabs and oysters have now been safely returned home, thanks to the efforts of our very own PCSO's, who found themselves taking on the role of marine conservation officers for the afternoon.
“We're pleased to report that the shellfish were released back into the water and are hopefully now getting on with their day, albeit with a slightly more adventurous story to tell.
“A special thank you to our lovely PCSO's for ensuring these creatures made a safe journey back to the sea.”
Police have confirmed those involved in the incident will be interviewed in due course about the offences.
