Pensioner accused of murder and arson in Gosport set for trial
An 81-year-old man accused of murder and arson in Gosport is set to go on trial.

Pensioner Alan Wotton appeared at Portsmouth Crown Court charged with the murder of Andrew Avery, 65, and arson with intent to endanger life.
Mr Avery died after he was seriously assaulted at an Exmouth Road property - where there was a fire - at around 5.20pm on Friday 29 November. The victim later died.
Wotton, of Exmouth Road, did not enter any pleas during the short hearing and spoke only to confirm his name. A trial date was set for July 28. He was remanded in custody.
A police spokesperson said previously: “Officers were called by Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service to Exmouth Road following reports of a fire at a property.
“It was further reported that a man in his 60s had been seriously assaulted. The man subsequently died as a result of the injuries sustained. Officers attended the scene and made an arrest.”
A tribute from Mr Avery’s family said: “Andy was a much-loved husband, father, brother and dear friend. He will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him.
“Andy was the most generous and kind person and would do anything for anyone. His memory will live on through his family and friends. Andy, you were so very loved and taken from us far too soon.”
