Exclusive:Man stabbed in Cosham was attacked by a group of six men, jury told
Abdul and Attiquallah Shinwari - who are not related - both deny attempted murder.
A man who was left close to death was swarmed by a group of attackers in Cosham, a jury has been told.
Abdul and Attiquallah Shinwari are on trial at Portsmouth Crown Court, accused of attempted murder and grievous bodily harm after a stabbing in Hawthorn Crescent on March 12 this year. The former is also charged with possession of a bladed article in a public place. They both deny all charges.
Abdul, 20 from Alma Road, Southampton, was a student at the Highbury campus of the City of Portsmouth College at the time. Attiquallah, 23 from St Helen’s Parade, Southsea, had previously studied there. The two are not related, but appeared in the dock together.

Russell Pyne, prosecuting, told the jury at Portsmouth Crown Court today (Tuesday, September 15) that the Shinwaris were part of a group of six who attacked Sefatullah Ibrahimkhel and a friend - although the two in the dock are the only ones facing charges.
He said: "There was a pair of men about four seconds behind the defendants on the CCTV footage, followed by two others. So you have six of them, in three pairs, not all together but close by, walking towards the end of the row of shops. We suggest a number of those six had weapons on them.
"Abdul Shinwari had a knife, while others had sticks, branches or batons.
"After what could be described as the first part of the attack, some of the attackers left the scene. We know that because of dash cam footage from a passing motorist, that shows Abdul Shinwari running across the road, having just stabbed Mr Ibrahimkhel."
Mr Pyne added that the blade used to stab the victim was used with such force that it detached from the handle. It is argued by the Crown Prosecution Service that Abdul Shinwari stabbed Mr Ibrahimkhel, while Atiquallah Shinwari held him down.
"The blade was left at the scene, while the handle was found on Abdul's route to Cosham Railway Station," the lawyer said. "When police arrived shortly after, Mr Ibrahimkhel was unconscious and his friend gave officers a brief account of what happened.
"He named Abdul Shinwari as the one carrying the knife and stabbing his friend.
"The victim was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham, and put into immediate surgery. One artery had been completely cut, and so had a nerve. Fortunately, the damage to both was repaired."
