Three men were seen restraining a man by pushing down the full force of their weight on him as he struggled.
The image shows the man’s head squashed against the pavement as one of the restraining men forces it down with his hand. Police attended the incident and arrested the man.
The force has now given details on the incident with a man now appearing in court over the incident. Officers said they received a report of a man wanted on suspicion of stalking offences who had been seen in the area. “The man resisted arrest and reportedly assaulted an officer in the process,” a police spokesperson said.
Lee Knight, 24, of Lancaster Road in Southampton, was subsequently arrested and charged with stalking involving fear of violence, sending by public communication network an offensive message, and assaulting a constable in the execution of their duty.
He appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court on Monday where he was remanded into custody to appear again at court in due course.
