Man arrested and charged with arson after setting fire to hotel room duvet at ibis

A man has been charged with arson after starting a fire in a hotel room.

Fire crews and police officers were called to a report of a fire at ibis budget, in Fratton Way, at approximately 12.15pm on Sunday, May 3, after a man set fire to a duvet in his hotel room.

Staff extinguished the fire and police have confirmed no injuries were reported following the incident.

Upon arrival, officers arrested 54-year-old, James Hutton, of no fixed abode, who has since been charged with arson with intent to endanger life.

He appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court on Monday, May 4.
