Christopher Jackson, 27, of Walton Road, Southampton, was charged with causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Jackson’s van allegedly ploughed into pedestrians in Aldwych on Tuesday 18 March around 11.40am. Aalia Mahomed, 20, from Mitcham, south London, was sitting on a bench in a pedestrianised area outside King's College London (KCL) when she was struck by the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two more pedestrians, a woman and a man both in their 20s, were taken to hospital with serious injuries and have since been discharged.

Jackson was arrested at the scene and an investigation launched by the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit. He will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday 5 January.
