A Hampshire FA spokesperson previously said: “There have been allegations of financial irregularities at Hampshire FA. We will continue to operate and serve football in Hampshire as normal. As this is now the subject of a police investigation, we are unable to comment further.”

The News understands the allegations could involve money that should have been paid to HMRC over a number of years but this has not been confirmed. The government department would not comment.

Hampshire police previously confirmed to The News a man has been arrested with “enquiries ongoing”. A spokesperson added: “A 61-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of fraud and has been bailed with conditions until 11 September.”

Police said the man has now been released from bail but remains under investigation.
