Man accused of murdering partner told her 'I've been nothing but good to you', court hears
Charlie Jeans is accused of murdering mum-of-three, Samantha Murphy.
A man accused of murdering his partner told her over messages that he had been “nothing but good” to her.
Charlie Jeans, 30 from Margate Road, Southsea, is on trial for the murder of Samantha Murphy. The 32-year-old’s body was found at a property in Wadham Road, North End, in the early hours of June 5 last year.
Jeans denies the charges.

At Portsmouth Crown Court, the jury was told of how the couple had been in a relationship, which often spilled over in heated arguments over WhatsApp. Their messages were read out in court, depicting feuds about past relationships, pub trips and KFC orders.
In one exchange, Samantha admitted to liking a previous partner, but said: “I didn’t love him. Please come back - please Charlie, I love you.”
Jeans replied: “Block your mum for good or we’re done. Your exes trigger me. I wish I was your first [partner]. I don’t want that spiteful c*** in our lives.”
Samantha said: “I’m sorry you’re not my first, but you are my last. You’re my everything.”
The pair later got engaged, the court was told, but further arguments arose about plans for a stag-do, with Samantha voicing concerns that Jeans’ friends were “mocking her” for their engagement plans, which included throwing a party.
“The ring’s being chucked,” Jeans said to her in one message.
In another exchange, both of them talked about being “on eggshells” around one another, with Samantha saying she’s “not allowed” to be upset.
She said: “I’m constantly on eggshells and asking if I’ve upset you. I’m not allowed to be upset and struggling because you get annoyed. You know I struggle massively with motherhood.”
Jeans added: “It’s taken out on me, well that’s how I feel. You say you’re doing it on your own when I’m doing everything I can to help you. I’ve been nothing but good to you.”
Statements given to police from Samantha’s friends suggest that she stopped seeing them when she and Jeans got together. Many of them didn’t even know they had got engaged, until they were added to a WhatsApp group for an engagement party.
Further evidence is due to be heard in court this afternoon.
