M27 driver clocked at 131mph as data reveals 10,204 caught on motorway stretch in Hampshire
A DRIVER speeding at 131mph on the M27 is one of more than 65,000 speeders caught in a year.
The driver was clocked at junction two on the motorway at Ower, and was the fastest recorded by Hampshire police in 2020.
The stretch of the M27 eastbound between junction four and five saw the highest number of speeders, with 10,204 last year.
Lockdown saw far fewer people on the roads last year, with just 601 caught speeding in April, compared to 7,375 in April 2019.

Overall speeding dropped - with 65,214 offences last year compared to 89,438 in the previous year.
Two 121mph drivers were clocked in 2020, one on the M3 and another on the A331 at Blackwater Valley relief road, Farnborough.
Alex Kindred, from Confused.com which obtained the figures under freedom of information law, said: ‘It’s worrying to think that many people took advantage of quieter roads during lockdown to ramp up the speed.
‘Speed limits are in place for a reason – to keep road users and pedestrians safe.
“If you’re caught speeding, you could be paying out up to 175 per cent of your weekly income – this could be up to £1,000 for some drivers, or £2,500 on a motorway.’
He added: ‘Stick to the limit and avoid a hefty fine.’
