The National Police Air Service (NPAS) was seen over Paulsgrove during the afternoon.
Hampshire Constabulary said it was assisting with the “ongoing search for a missing person”.
Now NPAS has said: “At 2.17pm on Sunday (28 June) a police helicopter crew from NPAS Bournemouth was deployed to the Portsmouth area to support Hampshire and Isle of White Constabulary in a missing person search. Total flying time on the task was 50 minutes.”
