Gosport driver arrested after being spotted smoking cannabis behind the wheel
A driver who was smoking a joint at the wheel was pounced on by police
A driver has been arrested after being caught smoking a joint while driving.
The woman was in Gosport when she was spotted by two PCSOs from the town’s neighbourhood team, who say they were behind a car “with plumes of smoke coming out of the driver’s side window” and a strong smell of cannabis. When the car turned at a junction the PCSOs could see what looked like a joint.
The PCSOs contacted the police control room and a roads policing officer, who was in an unmarked car, happened to be in Gosport too and pulled her over in Stoke Road.

The driver was given a roadside wipe which detected cannabis in her system, and cannabis was also found in the car. The woman was arrested and taken to the Eastern Investigation Centre in Portsmouth where a blood sample was taken, and then she was bailed.
On Facebook Gosport police said: “We know there will be people wanting to comment 'but it’s legal in loads of other countries' - it’s not here, 'you can get it on prescription' you can but you still can't smoke it whilst driving, 'aren't there rapists and murderers out there, it's just a bit of weed' yes there are and we have other policing departments dealing with them.”
