'Eagle-eyed' police arrest motorist for drink driving after controlling red Suzuki 'erratically' in Gosport

The driver was detained earlier this morning (April 16)

Perceptive police officers arrested a motorist on suspicion of drink driving this morning (April 16).

Emergency personnel stopped the driver at the wheel of a red Suzuki Alto in Rowner Road, Gosport. Gosport Police reported on Facebook that “eagle-eyed officers” made the arrest.

The force said: “The vehicle was pulled over by officers and the driver was required to provide a roadside breath sample which, unfortunately for him, he failed. Things got even worse for the driver when checks on police systems also showed him to only hold a provisional licence and to have no insurance.

“The driver was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving, driving without insurance and driving otherwise than in accordance with his licence and his car was seized.”

A warning was issued to anyone thinking of replicating the driver’s behaviour. “Drink driving is one of the leading causes of serious and fatal collisions,” Gosport Police added.

“Driving without the correct licence or supervision puts other road users at risk and will not be tolerated. We will continue to carry out proactive patrols to keep our roads safe. If you suspect someone is driving under the influence, please report it to us immediately. Thank you for helping us keep our roads and community safe.”
