Man summoned to court after car with baby inside nearly crashes into police vehicle on Christmas Day, Fareham
A man has been summoned to court after nearly crashing his car with a baby inside into a police vehicle.
An unmarked Armed Response Unit stopped the vehicle in Gosport Road, Fareham, 4.15pm on Christmas Day. Fareham Police reported on Facebook that the motorist was seen using his mobile phone while driving after the near-miss took place.

Emergency personnel were also concerned about a baby that was not safely secured in the car. The force said: “When Officers stopped the car, our computer systems showed the driver did not hold a valid driving licence or insurance for the vehicle.
“Officers were also extremely concerned to find a baby being carried arms of his mother, unrestrained and not in a suitable child car seat. The driver has been reported for summons and will have the opportunity to discuss these matters with the magistrates at court in due course. The car has been seized.”
Police thanked two men who helped install a child’s seat in the emergency vehicle so the mother and child could be driven home safely. The driver summoned to court walked home due to a lack of space in the car.
“No insurance, no car, even on Christmas Day,” Fareham Police added. “Thank you for your continued support, and we wish everyone a safe and peaceful Christmas.”
