Fareham man remains in hospital with life-changing injuries following Lee-on-the-Solent petrol station fire with axe recovered from the scene
A man arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life remains in hospital with “life changing injuries” following a fire at a petrol station.
The 51-year-old from Fareham was rushed to Queen Alexandra Hospital yesterday (December 4) after a fire engulfed two vehicles and a petrol pump at the BP garage on Broom Way, Lee-on-the-Solent. Police had already been called to the address with reports of a man being seen on the forecourt with an axe.
After fire crews extinguished the fire, police recovered an axe from the scene. The arrested man was the only person reported to have suffered an injury in the incident.
A Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesperson said: “A 51-year-old man from Fareham arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life remains in hospital receiving treatment for life changing injuries. The axe was recovered at the scene. No further arrests have been made at this time.
