A Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesperson has confirmed that “enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances”.

An Openreach spokesperson said: “One of our cabinets was badly damaged in a crash. Our engineers have been out to make the area safe, and full repairs are due to begin Friday.

“The damage is significant, so the work will be complex and could take some time. We understand how disruptive this is for people, and we’re grateful for everyone’s patience while we work as quickly and safely as possible to restore services.”
