Drug dealer caught with more than 100 cannabis edibles in his car is spared jail

A man who was caught by police with more than 100 edibles in his car has been spared jail - but must do unpaid work instead.

On February 11, 2023, Mason-Lee Williams, 25 from Broadmere Avenue in Havant, was pulled over by police on Hayling Island after being caught speeding. Upon searching his vehicle, officers found more than 100 cannabis edibles, with one bag alone having 67.

Williams was arrested and later charged with being in the supply of a controlled drug of class B, and pleaded guilty in December last year. Today (Tuesday, April 7) he appeared at Portsmouth Crown Court for sentencing.

The court heard how the defendant had started using cannabis for his mental health following a family tragedy, had accrued debt as a result and started selling drugs to pay that off. Since Williams’ arrest, there have been no further offences committed, he has co-operated with the probation service and now has two children with his current partner.

Appearing in court with a bad back - which he said was sustained during Easter weekend - one magistrate suggested he “should be in hospital rather than in court.”

Williams was ordered to complete 10 days of rehabilitation activities, and must complete 75 hours of unpaid work. The defendant was also instructed to pay a £154 surcharge, plus £85 costs. He was also given a six-month suspended sentence for 18 months.
