Several reports were made to police about poor driving

“The driver co-operated fully with officers and tested negative for both alcohol and drugs,” they added. “However, an eyesight test was conducted under Section 96 of the Road Traffic Act, which the driver was unable to pass.

“As a result, and in line with Cassie's Law, the driver's licence has been revoked. A person's eyesight can change gradually over time, and in some cases they may not realise that their vision has deteriorated to the point where it affects their ability to drive safely.

“Whilst this may be difficult news for those involved, eyesight standards are in place to protect all road users and help prevent serious collisions. The driver will now need to apply to the DVLA for their licence to be reinstated and provide appropriate medical evidence demonstrating that they meet the required eyesight standards before they can legally drive again.”
