Dispersal order issued for multiple parts of Gosport over bank holiday weekend

“Those who refuse to comply with the order are committing a criminal offence.”

Police have issued a dispersal order covering parts of Gosport following continued reports of anti-social behaviour.

At 7pm on Friday, August 28, a dispersal order will come into force, covering areas including Lee-on-the-Solent, the Hardway, Stokes Bay and Marine Parade.

It is due to remain in place until 7am on Sunday, August 30. Gosport Police said the action forms part of its ongoing efforts to tackle anti-social behaviour in the area.

A spokesperson for the police force said: “The dispersal authority enables our officers to deal with any issues of anti-social behaviour in the directed area more effectively and gives our officers the power to order a person to leave the area with no return within the specified time period.

“Those who refuse to comply with the order are committing a criminal offence and are liable for arrest. Individuals who are aged under 16 will be taken to their home address and follow-up work will be done with parents.

“Officers will be patrolling in the area so please do come and speak to them if you have any questions or concerns.”

Police also say the dispersal order will be reviewed at the end of the weekend, and could be extended into the bank holiday if officers deem it to be necessary.

Anyone who witnesses anti-social behaviour is asked to report it to police by calling 101 or using the force's online reporting service.

People should call 999 if a crime is in progress or there is an immediate danger.
