The force has been moving teams in with council and fire service buildings to save cash.

A spokeswoman for Mr Lane’s office said: ‘In order to keep the residents of Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Portsmouth and Southampton safer, the commissioner assigns provision for teams and departments of policing which, to enable them to work effectively, must remain strictly confidential.

‘This investment contributes to the commissioner’s over-arching mission to keep everyone safer.’

The plan will have one-off £804,5000 capital and £15,000 revenue costs, with £120,000 potential dilapidation liability.

The move will save £47,900 in revenue costs from 2019/20.

By comparison, the police investigation centre for Portsmouth will cost £18m to build.
