Armed police raid cannabis factory in Portchester Precinct with area 'sealed off' from public

A large emergency services presence is currently at the scene

Armed police officers have raided a cannabis factory in a shopping district with part of the area ‘sealed off’ from the public.

Police and fire crews rushed to Portchester Precinct earlier this morning (June 25). Much of the area has been “sealed off” from the public.

A Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesperson said the operation in West Street started at 9.45am. Police received various reports from residents who were concerned about people supplying drugs in the area.

The spokesperson said: “Officers located a cannabis factory following entry to the address. No arrests have been made and enquiries into this matter are ongoing.

“There will continue to be an increased police presence in the area whilst officers carry out enquiries. If anyone has any concerns they can speak to an officer.”

One eyewitness told The News that parts of the street are still “cordoned off” following the raid. Armed personnel and drones have been spotted at the scene.

Another resident added that the car park next to Portchester Methodist Church, and behind the ships at the eastern end of the precinct, are “sealed off” from the public. Crews from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service (HIWFRS) assisted the officers.

Unconfirmed reports from eyewitnesses said police broke into a flat above the shops through a window using a ladder. Debris has been seen scattered across the street.
