A Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary spokesperson said: “We were called at 10.22am today, 24 September, after a suspected unexploded ordnance was located during excavation work on Chatsworth Avenue. Officers attended and a cordon was put in place as a precaution.”

An Explosive Ordnance Disposal team attended the site and after scanning the item they cleared it be removed and police left the scene. While there has been no official confirmation it is thought the item could have been a old cannonball.
