Grade I-listed house in Portsmouth where Charles Dickens was born has bike rack installed directly in front of it
Portsmouth Council have installed the bike rack metres away from the historically important house
A bike rack has been installed on the pavement just metres away from the front door of the house where writer Charles Dickens was born.

The house now serves as the Charles Dickens’ Birthplace Museum, which is open to the public on select days.
A spokesperson for the council said: “The cycle stand was installed following a request for secure visitor cycle parking for Charles Dickens' Birthplace Museum.
“Conservation advice was sought because the site is within the Mile End Conservation Area, and a black cycle stand was chosen to fit with the historic character of the area.
“The location was selected to fit with the surrounding street scene while maintaining access for pedestrians and road users.
“The stand forms part of the council's wider programme to improve cycle parking across Portsmouth and support sustainable travel.”
Dickens is regarded by many as the best novelist of the Victorian era, and is known for works including Oliver Twist and A Christmas Carol.
