A retiring Blue Peter presenter has taken on a daredevil challenge as part of his plans to leave the show with a bang - climbing up the outside of the Spinnaker Tower.
Most people choose to abseil down the tower when they fancy stretching themselves, but Joe Mawhinney was roped - literally - into doing it the other way round.
The presenter, who has been on the show for more than three years, was given suction cups and made his way up the outside of the 560ft tower. He could be spotted heading up like a giant insect - although an insect supported by a safety team.
It’s just the latest wacky thing he’s tried as part of a programme of stunts - among the other challenges have been bobsleighing with Team GB, camping 500ft above the ground, driving an Aston Martin supercar, figure skating and bungee jumping.
He’s also tried a tough Royal Marine challenge, as well as working as a five-star butler - as well as synchronised diving.
Joel, who is the show’s 41st presenter, will leave Blue Peter in the latter part of this year. A trailer for his Spinnaker Tower exploits is due to be screened today, and the show is likely to appear next Friday, June 26
The News AV expert Habibur Rahman was there to film his exploits.
