Army wages war against beauty spot litterbugs

'˜AN ARMY' of 70 people took to the beach in Titchfield in an effort to rid the beauty spot of rubbish.

The event, held just off Meon Shore, was organised by Solent Environmental Action as part of the Clean For the Queen campaign.

Dozens of people of all ages battled valiantly against bracing winds on Saturday to scour the beach for unwanted waste.

Carrying black plastic bags and wearing gloves, the volunteers spent about two hours picking up rubbish from the coastline.

Organiser Graham Smith said: ‘People leaving litter in the sea and on the beach has become a major problem. It’s destroying natural habitats and it’s got to stop.’

The next clear-up will take place on February 27, at 10am.
