TV personality and ex-special forces soldier Ant Middleton tells people not to join the army at Portsmouth City Council emergency small boats meeting
He told the meeting ‘standards have slipped’
TV personality and right-wing activist Ant Middleton attended the Portsmouth City Council’s extraordinary meeting today in the Guildhall to back a motion to condemn migrant landings in the city.
The Portsmouth former soldier, best known for his appearance as an instructor on SAS: Who Dares Wins, said that over recent years he has seen “standards drop” in the city and the identity of the country “stripped”.
“When I see the suppression of our culture, we’re not allowed to be proud of who we are, what we've come from, and ultimately, you know, what's in our DNA and what we've done as a country in whole. It just shows across the board, hence why no one wants to join the military, there's no sense of military pride,” said Mr Middleton.

“Watching what's happening in Portsmouth, the RNLI being 40 miles out, facilitating criminal organisations and criminal activity. Let's call it what it is.
“I'm actually quite surprised Portsmouth has put up with it for so long, even though they've known deep down about the immigration problem here, not only illegal immigration, but the immigration problem here as well. What I mean by that is the cultural indifferences, values, principles, morals, that clash with our culture or our British culture. And it's obviously reached our shores now.
“We've taken our eye off the ball, we've been so tolerant that we've neglected ourselves, neglected our communities, we've neglected our faith, we neglect our identity. Along with that, with, I believe, a government purposely suppressing it.”
Mr Middleton also encouraged people away from joining the British military. He said: “We need to rip into the tri service, the military, the army, the Air Force, and the Navy. We need to rip into the level entry tests, because I believe the standards are absolutely diabolical.
“I have lots of youngsters that come to me saying ‘Ant, what branch of the military should I join?’ I said, don't. Don't join it. Because what are you fighting for? Who are you fighting for?
“A big part of our history is military history. When that's suppressed, and we're told we're not allowed to be proud of that, of where we've come from and who we are, and ultimately, what our ancestors have done, for us to have the freedoms that we enjoy today, it's like, ‘why are you fighting for someone like that?’”
Mr Middleton encouraged people who were thinking of joining the military to instead go into ‘trades’, saying that “we are needed at home”.
He also referred to the anti-migrant protest that happened in Gosport last night (September 22) saying that the original choice of Gosport as a landing place for two RNLI boats carrying migrants shows “how detached the government are from reality”.
He said: “We need leadership. If I'm going to break it down to one common denominator, we have a severe lack of leadership.
“We're riddled, riddled with corruption, and the foundations of this government and this establishment is riddled with it, hence why we need a Reform government in power. They're going to roll up their sleeves, get boots on the ground, do things, and make decisions and see them out to the end, whether we succeed or not.”
