Amur tiger arrives at Marwell Zoo on a temporary basis while his home undergoes renovation
Meet Luca
The team at Marwell Zoo has welcomed the arrival of a new Amur tiger - Luca.
The Hampshire conservation zoo, located in Thompson's Lane, Winchester, has fostered the four-year-old tiger while renovation work is being completed at his usual home, The Big Cat Sanctuary, in Kent.

Luca is anticipated to remain at the zoo for six months and he can be found opposite the Cafe Graze site. Carrie Arnold, Animal Team Leader said: “We’re delighted to be able to foster Luca and visitors have already started to spot him out and about. We’re taking things at his pace to give him chance to get used to his new surroundings.”
His arrival comes following the tragic death of Pasha, the Amur tiger, who was euthanised in June after developing an ‘acute illness’. A post-mortem has recently revealed the endangered animal’s cause of death was due to a large gastric impaction which caused a rapid decline in his health despite medication and treatment.
