'Fitting memorial' for Pompey legend Alan Knight next year as club confirms private family funeral
‘Fitting memorial’ for Alan Knight to take place next year
Pompey fans will be able to pay tribute to football legend, Alan Knight, in a ‘fitting memorial’ next year.
Portsmouth Football Club has released a statement advising club supporters that the upcoming funeral of the former Blues goal keeper will be “a private family affair”, with a memorial to take place in the new year.

The 65-year-old, who made 801 appearances for the club, was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2024 and passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
In the days since his passing, fans have paid tribute to the keeper describing him as a “Pompey legend” and “true gentleman”, with a minute silence taking place during Pompey’s game against Cardiff on September 5.
In a statement released by Portsmouth Football Club, it said: “We are aware that many members of the Fratton Park family, and the wider community, will want to pay tribute to a man who served both Pompey and the city so loyally.
“With that in mind, Alan's family, the club and Portsmouth City Council are working together to plan a fitting memorial service to be held in the new year. Further details regarding the memorial service will follow in due course.”
Pompey midfielder, Marlon Pack, has also called for a statue or stand so Alan Knight’s incredible legacy will live on.
He previously told The News: “He’s a player whose name will live forever, I hope we gave him a fitting tribute.”
