'Adventurous' capybara escapes temporary holding at Marwell Zoo resulting in an urgent search
An “adventurous” capybara has escaped her temporary holding at Marwell Zoo resulting in a search and rescue.
Marwell Zoo has published an urgent appeal to the public after Samba, a new capybara from Jimmy's Farm & Wildlife Park, in Ipswich, escaped her temporary holding area on Monday, March 16.
While her companion, Tango, also managed to escape she was quickly retrieved by the team, who are now desperately trying to locate Samba.

A spokesperson for Marwell Zoo said: “Our dedicated team began searching the zoo and surrounding area, as well as quickly securing the area where they escaped.
“Local authorities were informed in line with the conditions of our zoo license. As always, animal welfare is our highest priority, and our team are working hard to bring Samba back as quickly and safely as possible.
“They do not pose a risk to the public, however we strongly advise against approaching Samba or disturbing any area she may be hiding, to prevent causing her stress.”
On Wednesday, March 18 Samba was spotted in local village, Owslebury, but the zoo have not been able to retrieve her, and they are advising the public to remain vigilant but not try to capture her by themselves.
The spokesperson added: “If you believe you may have seen Samba, please contact us immediately on 07436167401 and send a photo with location, using Google maps or What3Words.
“Please do keep a watch out when walking or driving in the local area and check ponds or local waterways as capybaras love to spend time in water. She is likely to be more mobile at night.
