The 8849 TANK 5 Pro is packing some seriously unusual tech - including a 2K projector and ultra-wide thermal imaging.

Smartphone makers are always looking for the next big feature, but the new 8849 TANK 5 Pro is taking a rather different approach.

The rugged handset has been built for people who spend time outdoors or in demanding professional environments, and comes loaded with features that go well beyond the usual camera, screen and battery upgrades.

One of its standout features is a FLIR® Lepton 3.1R thermal imaging sensor, offering a 95° ultra-wide field of view and 160×120 resolution.

That means users can scan a much wider area for heat sources and temperature changes at once - potentially handy for everything from outdoor adventures and equipment checks to structural inspections, search-and-rescue work and navigating in the dark.

And then there's the feature that could really turn heads: a built-in 2K DLP projector.

The projector can beam visuals at up to 220 lumens and comes with auto-focus, allowing it to adjust quickly depending on the distance.

It means the phone can be used to project maps, videos, presentations and other content without needing to carry a separate projector.

The TANK 5 Pro is also no slouch when it comes to performance.

Under the hood is the 4nm MediaTek Dimensity 9400e 5G chipset, alongside Wi-Fi 7 support and Android 16. The combination is designed to handle demanding apps, gaming and multitasking while offering fast connectivity.

The phone's display is another major selling point.

There's a 6.73-inch 3K AMOLED screen with peak brightness of up to a whopping 3,000 nits.

That's designed to make the display easier to see in bright outdoor conditions - useful if you're checking maps, navigating or watching content while away from home.

The battery is equally hefty.

The TANK 5 Pro packs a 17,600mAh battery, designed to keep the phone running for longer when you're nowhere near a power socket.

When it does eventually need a boost, 120W fast charging is designed to get it back up and running quickly, helping cut down on downtime.

There's also 18GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, giving users plenty of room for apps, games, large files, thermal imaging data and high-resolution video.

For travellers, the phone also includes global eSIM connectivity, allowing compatible mobile plans to be switched without relying entirely on a physical SIM card.

The result is a phone that looks less like a conventional everyday handset and more like a pocket-sized piece of survival and field equipment — complete with its own projector and thermal camera.

When can you get it?

The 8849 TANK 5 Pro is now available for pre-order on 8849tech.com.
