Thousands of eligible people have come forward to have their COVID-19 vaccination – and there are still a few weeks left to make sure you get yours.
Those eligible for this year’s spring campaign are:
- people aged 75 years and over
- residents of care homes for older adults
- adults and children aged six months and over who have a weakened immune system
A weakened immune system includes:
- those living with HIV
- organ, bone marrow or stem cell transplant patients
- those undergoing radiotherapy or chemotherapy
- those with genetic disorders that affect the immune system
- those taking medication which will affect their immune system
Dr Matt Nisbet, GP and Clinical Lead for the NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight COVID-19 Vaccination Programme, said: “So far more than 150,000 people have come forward to have their vaccination, which is fantastic.
“Having the vaccination can help prevent you from developing serious illness should you get COVID-19.
“If you are eligible for the vaccination but haven’t had a chance to receive it then there is still time.
“You’ve got until June 30 to get your jab and there are a number of ways for you to do this.”
How to get the jab
Many people will have been invited directly via their GP practice.
But if you are eligible, you don’t need to wait to be invited and can book via the National Booking System, by calling 119, or via the NHS App, until 30 June.
You can get your vaccination from GP practices, pharmacies and pop-up and roving clinics.
A new roving vehicle is also on the road to help deliver COVID-19 vaccines to some of our communities who may not find accessing vaccinations easy.
The vehicle, run by NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight, and supported by Hampshire County Council, will be travelling to different parts of the county to deliver the vaccine closer to people’s homes.
People do not need to make an appointment – they can walk in and have their vaccination if they are eligible.
Eligible people aged 12 and over will be able to receive their vaccination on the roving vehicle. Those under 12 can contact their GP practice to get booked in.
