The Akash on Albert Road was given a top score of five after a visit by food hygiene inspectors on Tuesday, August 25. The new score follows on from a previous report declaring that improvement was needed after it was given a score of two due to issues with the cleanliness and condition of the building.

Inspectors judge establishments in three areas; hygienic food handling; cleanliness and condition of facilities and building; and management of food safety. The Akash’s turnaround saw them get top marks with food handling and cleanliness rates as ‘good’ and the management of food safety rates as ‘very good’.

The award-winning restaurant is a popular fixture in the city, regularly welcoming Pompey footballers and manager John Mousinho.
