"Incredibly indulgent" - I tried the much-loved Festive Mac' N' Cheese at the delightful Tenth Hole in Southsea
Macaroni and cheese might not make you think of Christmas immediately, but at one popular Southsea eatery its arrival on the menu is eagerly awaited every festive season.
The Tenth Hole on Eastern Parade is not only known for its great selection of cakes, its Festive Mac’ N’ Cheese with bacon, pigs in blankets, stuffing and cranberry sauce is also a popular draw at this time of year.
Having never tried it, I stepped up to the plate to give The News’ readers my verdict. It’s a difficult job but someone has to do it.
Now, I love Mac’ N’ Cheese. It’s the ultimate comfort food but how well does it work with all of the festive trimmings? Having picked it up from the friendly staff at the Tenth Hole on a rainy day I was excited to give it a try.

First things first, and perhaps most importantly, the Mac’ N’ Cheese itself was delicious. A gorgeously creamy and gooey cheese sauce clung to the pasta and was moreish in its own right. Add to that the saltiness of the bacon and pigs in blankets it was the perfect combo.
One reservation I had beforehand was how the cranberry sauce would work, a sweet and savoury combination is not always my cup of tea. However, I need not of worried, it actually elevated the whole dish with the sweetness cutting through the richness of the pasta and the pork as well as the stuffing.
It was incredibly indulgent and my only issue was managing to finish it in one sitting, but rest assured I persevered did.
I can certainly see why a visit to the Tenth Hole has become a festive tradition for some. From the comfy surrounding and welcoming staff to the tasty Festive Mac’ N’ Cheese - I think it may be a new tradition for me as well.
