'Heavy hearts' as Wilfrid's Cafe in Droxford closes after six years following 'obstacles'
A community cafe has closed its doors after ‘obstacles’ have resulted in the team being ‘forced to move out’.
Wilfrid’s Cafe, located in the annexe of St.Mary and All Saints’ Church, Droxford, took to social media at the end of last week announcing the cafe’s imminent closure.
The board of Wilfrid’s Cafe confirmed the venue’s final day of trading would be on Saturday, November 15 for the site’s Christmas Market.
The post said: “It is with heavy hearts that we have to announce that Wilfrid’s Café will be closing its doors.

“You will be aware that the café’s existence has been under threat since the Friends of Droxford Church (FODC) revoked our licence in August but we had sincerely hoped that, with the help and support of the community and the Parochial Church Council (PCC), we would find a way to stay open.
“However, the obstacles put in the way of this by the FODC have proved too much and so we are being forced to move out.”
The cafe opened six years ago and it has been a welcoming space for the community to come together. On top of this, the space has hosted multiple fundraising events and raised funds for charity and community initiatives over the years.
The post added: “As a company, we will now take a break and consider how we can serve the community best in the future. We already have some ideas but now it’s time to take stock and also to have a rest.
“Thanks to your support, we can be proud of what we have achieved and we look forward to the next exciting chapter. Watch this space….!”
The News has contacted the Friends of Droxford Church for a comment.
