"I’ve had my eye on the shop for a while": Friends prepare to open new ice cream parlour Scoop'd on Hayling Island

Sweet treat lovers unite as Hayling Island prepares to welcome a new ice cream parlour.

Friends, Ryan Kendell and Charlotte Atkins, are diving head first into a delicious new business venture after taking over Ben and Shelley’s beloved ice cream parlour, on Hayling Island.

The pair, who collectively run a number of food venues at the popular Funland on the island and have decades of catering experience, have said they are “excited” to launch their latest endeavour - Scoop’d.

Ryan said: “We’re excited to take on a new challenge and to be honest, I’ve had my eye on the shop for a while because ice cream is the easiest part of everything we do.

“The ice cream parlour used to be Ben and Shelley’s so we are both really excited to take over and do it up - we have both been in the catering industry for years so it felt like the time for something new. It was a successful ice cream parlour before and I’ve been told it is a busy corner with lots of stuff to do.”

Scoop’d, which will open its doors on February 14 at 10.30am, will be offering 32 flavours of soft scoop ice cream, with ten of them being plant based to ensure there is something for everyone.

Ryan said the past few weeks have consisted of injecting a new lease of life into the site with a fresh lick of paint and signage.

The 37-year-old added: “It is very stressful at the moment because it is not just getting ready for a new shop but everything else at the fairground is opening on the same day - I know it will be fine when we are all open.

“I had a job in a chip shop when I was 12, back in the days when you could do things like that but most of my career has been in catering.”

The grand opening of Scoop’s will also welcome Frozen character, Elsa, who will be at the parlour between 12noon and 2pm for a meet and greet.
