A common blood pressure medication is being urgently recalled after it was found to potentially contain another medicine by mistake.

Crescent Pharma Limited has issued the “precautionary measure” due to a potential packaging error, which saw one patient find a blister pack of a different medication instead of their prescribed Ramipril 5 mg Capsules.

Health officials from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) have warned of “side effects”, including “dizziness”, and are urging people to check the packaging of their medication to see if it has been affected.

Around one in three adults in the UK has high blood pressure, according to the latest figures from Blood Pressure UK, with millions taking daily medications to control their symptoms.

What medication has been recalled?

Crescent Pharma Limited is recalling one batch of Ramipril 5 mg Capsules as a “precautionary measure”, due to a potential error at the manufacturing site after it was identified that a pack of Ramipril 5 mg Capsules (Batch Number GR164099) which was dispensed between June 6, 2025, and March 6, 2026, contained blister packs of another medication, Amlodipine 5 mg Tablets (Batch Number GA094034).

Both of the blood pressure medications are manufactured at the same site, with the error appearing to have happened when the blister strips were packed into the cartons.

The majority of the medication was distributed in 2025, with it being expected that many of the medications will have already been dispensed to patients and consumed.

What if you take this medication?

Patients who take Ramipril are advised to check if their pack has the recalled batch number GR164099, and return it if it contains blister packs of another medication named Amlodipine 5 mg Tablets, batch number GA094034, to their nearest pharmacy.

Both medications are used to treat high blood pressure; however, as your body may not be used to a different type of medication, your blood pressure could become lower than normal, and you may experience dizziness as a result of taking amlodipine.

Patients with questions about the medication or who have experienced adverse reactions should speak with their pharmacist, GP, or a healthcare professional responsible for their care.
