Nestle issues new update on baby formula recall - with products 'unsafe to consume'
Nestle has updated an urgent recall for several infant formulas and follow-on formulas 🍼
- Nestle has updated an urgent product recall for infant and follow-on formulas.
- They may contain a dangerous toxin associated with food poisoning.
- The FSA have warned parents that the items are ‘unsafe to consume’.
Nestle has extended its urgent product recall for several infant formulas and follow-on formulas issued on January 6 due to concerns that they may contain a potentially dangerous toxin.
The updated product recall issued on January 8 has expanded the precautionary recall of several SMA Infant Formula and Follow-On Formula products.
The items are being recalled as they may contain the toxin Cereulide, which is produced by some strains of Bacillus cereus.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) have said the items are “unsafe to consume”, as the toxin has been linked to serious health complications and even death.
Cereulide is highly heat stable, meaning it is unlikely to be destroyed by cooking, boiling water, or when making infant milk. If consumed, it can lead to a quick onset of symptoms including nausea, vomiting and abdominal cramps.
