Minstead Trust celebrates 10 years of supporting neuro disabled people in Portsmouth
Staff recognised for their dedication at event
A charity is celebrating 10 years of helping neuro disabled people in Portsmouth as an event marking the landmark moment recognised the dedication of staff to the people they supports.
The Minstead Trust held the event at its day opportunities centre on Warren Avenue on Saturday, June 27, the location where services first started to be provided to the city a decade ago. A number of dignitaries were in attendance including the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, Councillor Abdul Kadir, accompanied by Tahmina Kadir, Lady Mayoress, and Amanda Martin MP.
The dedication of staff who been at the charity for the whole 10 years was recognised with the Lord Mayor handing out certificates and flowers thanking them for the support they provide to the city. At the event there were also creative activities, led by Seekers Create, including a collaborative artwork session involving the people Minstead Trust supports, staff and partners, and a raffle which raised £575 for local services.

Matt Parrant, Regional Operations and Registered Manager for Portsmouth, said: “It was incredibly special to see the people we support at the centre of a celebration that was about them, their achievements and their place in the community. The event was organised by our staff, for our staff and the people we support, and it simply would not have happened without their dedication.
“Portsmouth has supported Minstead Trust for ten years, and we are proud to be part of this city and to continue growing our support alongside the local community.”
Since it opened the Minstead Trust Day Opportunities on Warren Avenue, the charity has gone onto open two Lily & Lime cafes in the city which provide work experience and apprenticeships for people with learning disabilities. One of the community cafes is based in Portsmouth Central Library, while the other is for Portsmouth City Council staff within the Civic Offices.
The charity supports over 600 people across the south coast from Hampshire to Dorse. More details can be found at www.minsteadtrust.org.uk.
