A MAN was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital after a traffic light knocked over by a coach fell on his head and left him unconscious.

The light struck the man after it was downed in a one-vehicle collision at the junction of Fratton Road and St Mary’s Road just after 3pm on Wednesday.

Police said the man, who is 26, ‘briefly' lost consciousness but later came around.

The accident forced bus provider Stagecoach to divert its 21 service to Havant via Anchorage Park because St Mary’s Road was blocked.

Buses instead travelled via New Road.

Stagecoach said on Twitter that St Mary's Road was clear by 4.43pm.
